Not for the faint of heart

So beautiful can be creepy, we have compiled our tips for you here. Have fun!

Scary with the master of horror

When talking üabout horror novels, one should bow deeply to Stephen King, who probably made us all creeped out at one time or another. Whether with "Shining", "Pet Sematary", "Carrie" or the classic "IT", which is now available in a particularly beautiful limited and illustrated edition. Many of his books have been made into films, and we present to you here the first and second part of the very successful "IT" adaptation.

Scary Snacks für the hurried

Short stories have always offered plenty of suspense in just a few pages, and the following books feature a goose bumps guarantee throughout:
"Cursed Bunny" by Bora Chung blurs the lines between magical realism, horror, and science fiction and was shortlisted for the 2021 International Booker Prize.
The collection "Der schwarze Sog" presents exclusively contemporary as well as classic female authors and fascinates with a variety of horror stories from a female perspective.

Horror Stories

All new and quite exciting

.Horror doesn't automatically mean corpses, death and screaming teens, often the subtly subliminal lurking is much more exciting and nerve-wracking. The lines between the thriller, science fiction, and horror genres have been blurring for a long time, and it's exciting to watch authors manage to keep us from falling asleep peacefully. These are our 2022 favorites:

Alma Katsu: "The Fervor": This book is set in 1944 in an American internment camp, Americans of Japanese origin are imprisoned there as an alleged threat. A mysteriöse disease sweeps through the camp spreading paranoia, violence and death. Very suspenseful.
Carole Johnstone: "Das Spiegelhaus. Du wolltest vergessen. Jetzt musst du dich erinnern": Twin sisters who disappear at night to a special place, a house with a dark secret, and a missing girl who must be found. Oppressive and labyrinthian.
In September 2022, Mats Strandberg releases "The Conference", a novel that should please everyone left in the home office, because this meeting will end very very bloody.

Dystopian horror

Is that überhaupt horror at all? You can certainly ask that about three of the four titles, but then you also have to ask "What is horror, anyway?" And we think that the absolute literary giants Atwood, Ishiguro and McCarthy have created dystopias that are impossible to forget and should be read.
"Tender is the Flesh" plays with the idea of a world where cannibalism is legal right from the title. Not nice either.
