Interview with Tim Armann

Creator & Cook Interview with Tim Armann

Tim Armann was with us for an interview and we asked him about his passion for cooking, tips & cooking hacks and, of course, music and books.

1. Hey Tim, you're currently in France with your dog Lola. Is it a holiday for you or are you working on a new project?

I actually wanted to shift down a gear in France and take a holiday. There have been so many great projects in the last few months that have demanded a lot of coordination and planning from me and my team. We are looking for new guests for the 2nd season of ‘Eat here or take away’, the website brotmitei.de was launched and of course my 1st cookery book ‘Mach`s Lecker!’ was published.

2. Tell us your favourite dish from ‘Mach`s lecker!’ and why is it your favourite dish?

Tim [Laughs!] That's a very difficult question. However, that was exactly my goal: I wanted to make a cookbook with all my favourite dishes in it. But if I had to choose one dish, my personal favourite would be lasagne.

3. Do you have an absolute classic recipe for a quick dinner?

Definitely, all pasta dishes! With pasta, in all its variations, you can conjure up a quick dinner on the table in 20 minutes. Another very quick recipe, which is also ideal for spontaneous visitors, is pan-fried camembert with figs and cherry tomatoes. Then everyone can sit around the pan and pull the melted Brie with bread straight out of the pan. A perfect and quick recipe for social gatherings.

4. What was your favourite food as a child?

When my mum asked what my brother and I wanted for dinner, the answer was always: roulades with dumplings. It's an absolute festive meal, but it's also our favourite dish.

5. Where does your passion for cooking come from?

My mum was already a very good cook, but I actually got into cooking out of necessity. As is sometimes the case in life, my parents split up and my dad didn't have time to cook for my brother and me. I cooked so that we, or rather I, had something ‘warm’ on the table.

6. Do you have any tips for anyone who loves to eat but doesn't like cooking? Any motivation to start cooking?

If you don't feel like cooking at all, there's no point in persuading someone to do it. But a good starter dish is lasagne or chilli con carne. Most people like it and it actually tastes slightly different for everyone, because each cook gives the dish a very individual flavour. When you get great feedback from your guests for the first time - that's the moment to continue cooking and become bolder with your dishes.

MI'll tell you more on 12 September 2024 at the kitchen crash course on the KulturBühne in the KulturKaufhaus.

7. I've heard that as well as cooking, you're also passionate about festivals. Which is your favourite festival and which music keeps you on the edge of your seat?

Yes, there was a lot about festivals and events before Brot mit Ei. But I've had my fill of festivals for now. But one of my favourites is a very special festival in the middle of the forest. The ‘Sound Of The Forest’. Great people, a chilled atmosphere, forest and lake and a brilliant line-up every year. That's all it takes.

8. Would you also like to tell me your personal favourite bands/artists?

It's always swinging, but at the moment it's the Leonids. They also perform at the ‘Sound Of The Forest Festival’ and are unbeatable live.

9. As a Berliner by choice, surely you have a restaurant tip in Berlin?

Yes, absolutely! The ‘Bertie’ in Prenzlauer Berg. It celebrated its reopening this summer and has everything it needs: Good hospitality, a very cosy atmosphere and simply great food.

10. Finally: What do you associate with the KulturKaufhaus?

Especially my book premiere [Laughs!] But a visit in advance is high on my list, after my holiday.
