Our story
A department store for cultural media, open at almost all hours or a corner shop for culture ? that?s what founder Peter Dussmann had in mind when he broke with the conventional ideas of the retail industry and created the KulturKaufhaus where different cultural topics met with a carefully curated selection and a comprehensive service. And all of that on Friedrichstraße ? a special place, even then able to overcome borders and connect cultures, here where East and West used to meet.

And it is not least our precious staff who represent the basic idea behind the KulturKaufhaus on a daily basis. We are a big team of 200 culture lovers from all over the world, and are very happy to provide you with our personal cultural tips as Kultivist:innen.
Restaurant Ursprung & Planet!Based Food&Drinks
Located directly by the vertical garden in the Dussmann KulturKaufhaus, the café is an oasis of relaxation and enjoyment in the middle of the busy center of the capital.

The gastronomic concept at Restaurant Ursprung & Planet!Based Food&Drinks combines sustainable action and creative cooking to create a culinary experience. Here, the nutrition of the future can be experienced and, above all, tasted.

From future delicacies such as waffles from the Arabian Nights (perfeggt, spelt, hollandaise, raz el hanout, eggplant, chickpea) to weekly dishes such as chicken fricassee and the popular "Catherine's Cakes" based on recipes by Catherine von Fürstenberg-Dussmann, both the classics of "Ursprung" and innovative new interpretations are not missed out.

The team of food service futurist Christian Hamerle and the chefs Tino Speer and Karsten Schwarzenberg of the Restaurant Ursprung & Planet!Based Food&Drinks sees itself as a driving force in the topic of the nutritional turnaround and enters into a dialogue with Berlin to this end.
