Many languages are spoken in Germany and we want to promote reading aloud and language acquisition.
Reading aloud can only become a matter of course in every family if it is possible in many languages. Different languages of origin are a resource that we want to make greater use of in order to win more parents for reading aloud.
An effective key to this is the day-care centre, which sets important language and reading promotion impulses - for example by reading aloud - to the children, but also to the parents.
In cooperation with six children's book publishers, nine popular picture books for 2-7 year olds were translated into seven languages besides German: Arabic, Farsi, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Turkish and Ukrainian.
In this way, stories already familiar through the daycare centre and topics relevant to everyday life, which are conveyed in a child-friendly way, can enter the family languages at home.
This offer is aimed at parents and all interested parties, but also at daycare centers and libraries.
