Product description

This textbook presents the essential scientific principles of thermodynamics in a detailed and well-structured manner for practice-oriented teaching. It conveys analytically reliable knowledge with a view to engineering application and provides the key to a quick understanding of e.g. thermal machines, heat transfer, humid air and combustion. The present English edition - in comparison to earlier German editions - has been extended to include aspects of fluid mechanics, dynamics of ideal gases and chemical thermodynamics.

The contents

Basic thermodynamic terms - The first law of thermodynamics - The second law of thermodynamics - Ideal gases - Real gases and vapors - Thermal machines - Cyclic processes - Exergy - Heat transfer - Humid air - Combustion - Chemical thermodynamics - Appendix

The target groups

Students of mechanical engineering, power engineering, environmental engineering, process engineering, building services engineering and automotive engineering.

Author

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Dehli, *1948, studied mechanical engineering and energy technology and obtained his doctorate on canonical equations of state in thermodynamics at the Technical University of Stuttgart. After working for three years in an engineering company, he worked for fourteen years in a large energy supply company - among other things as head of department for decentralised energy technologies and for fundamental issues. Since 1991 at the Esslingen University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Esslingen). Teaching areas: Thermodynamics, Energy Technology, Gas Technology, Combustion etc. Co-author of this textbook since 2003.

Prof. Dipl.-Phys. Ernst Doering, 1925-1982, studied at the Technical University of Karlsruhe. After six years in industry in the fields of fluid mechanics and drying technology, he worked from 1958 at the Staatliche Ingenieurschule, now Esslingen University of Applied Sciences. 1968 Author of the first edition of this textbook.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Herbert Schedwill, 1927-2015, after apprenticeship as a mechanic, studied at the Technical University of Stuttgart. Then three years of engineering work in design, development and testing in the field of heat transfer. He obtained his doctorate on longitudinal heat conduction in the plane partition wall of recuperative heat exchangers. From 1970 to 1989 at the Staatliche Ingenieurschule, now Esslingen University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Esslingen). Until 2015 co-author of this textbook, whereby he gave essential impulses for its further development.
