Produktbeschreibung

If Eugene O'Neill represents the tragic mask of American drama, then George S. Kaufman can easily lay claim to its smiling counterpart. No other comic dramatist in America has enjoyed more popular success and perennial influence or been more fortunate in his choice of collaborators, who included George and Ira Gershwin, Moss Hart, Irving Berlin, and the Marx Brothers.

Here, in the most comprehensive collection of his plays ever assembled, are nine classics: his uproarious "backstage" play The Royal Family (1927, written with Edna Ferber); the Marx Brothers-inspired mayhem of Animal Crackers (1928, with Morrie Ryskind), in a version discovered in Groucho Marx's papers and published here for the first time; June Moon (1929, with Ring Lardner), a hilarious look at a young composer trying to make it big on Tin Pan Alley; Once in a Lifetime (1930, with Moss Hart), one of the first and best satires of Hollywood; Pulitzer Prize winners Of Thee I Sing(1931, with Morrie Ryskind and Ira Gershwin) and You Can't Take It with You (1936, with Moss Hart); Dinner at Eight(1932, with Edna Ferber), a tart ensemble piece that mixes comedy and melodrama; Stage Door (1936, with Edna Ferber), his much-loved story about young actresses trying to make it big in New York City; and The Man Who Came to Dinner (1939, with Moss Hart), an unforgettable burlesque of America's cult of celebrity.

Bursting with vernacular wit, farcical ingenuity, and theatrical panache, these plays have remained beloved favorites and exuberant reminders of Broadway in its glory days.

As far as book titles are concerned, Jennette McCurdy's memoir surely has one of the most provocative ones. When the actress rose to fame through the Nickelodeon shows iCarly and Sam & Cat, nobody could have imagined the turmoil behind the scenes - her family's financial insecurity, a very strict upbringing, dehumanizing auditions, emotional abuse from her mother, and immense pressure from the show's producer. How do you undo a lifetime of manipulation, and destructive coping mechanisms, and land to stand on your own feet? In I'm Glad My Mom Died, she delves deep into these uncomfortable topics with refreshing frankness and surprisingly dark humor. Every chapter closes with a metaphorical gut punch that makes putting the book down nearly impossible. An infuriating, yet highly captivating read and one of the best memoirs to come out of 2022.
fast paced, witty and a very special main character, Evelyn reflects on her relentless rise to the top as an actress. Throughout the story, my relationship to Evelyn changed multiple times and often I could not relate to her or her decisions, nevertheless I loved her, her sarcastic-self and the storys she had to tell about all the men she loved or left.

Viola Davis impresses with intensity in cinema, for television and on stage. In 'Finding me' we accompany the actress through her childhood and to the roots of her strength.
It's a tough road full of adversity, setbacks and trauma.
Viola's powerful writing is breathtaking, relentlessly honest and full of wise insights.
I really love it.
Triumph and trauma go hand in hand in the life of this multi-talented icon.
Billy Porter describes in the memoir 'unprotected', the extreme highs and lows of a astonishing life. With mischievousness, merciless honesty and without the slightest shyness about showing himself vulnerable.
The search for authenticity, hope and healing until the pain is truly overcome is a long one.
This is not just a memoir - it's a testimony!
Charmingly and with ease, Billy Porter transports the extravagance of his amazing singing voice into a lively account full of playful swerves.
Standing ovations for so much audacity!
