We are celebrating the latest publication in German translation by the popular Irish author Sally Rooney at the KulturBühne: from 7:30 pm with a panel talk about the book and from 8:30 pm there will then be an exclusive livestreaming to London for the book launch with Sally Rooney.
“Intermezzo” is the story of two dissimilar brothers. Peter, in his early thirties, is a charismatic, disillusioned human rights lawyer; Ivan, ten years younger, is a serious and introverted chess player. When Ivan was young and Peter was a teenager, the two were close, but later they became increasingly estranged. Now they have lost their beloved father, which reopens old wounds. Then Ivan meets Margaret, whose marriage has just broken up.
With her new novel, Sally Rooney, one of the most influential authors of her generation, leaves all attributions behind and proves that she knows how to draw truly human characters like no other. Human desire, human despair, human recognition, the mystery of human connection: Intermezzo is stirring and comforting, a story of brothers and lovers, told with the tension of a long held breath that finally opens to a denouement of extraordinary emotional force.
