Ilija Äurovic wurde 1990 in Podgorica, Montenegro, geboren. Äurovic schreibt Prosa, Lyrik, Theaterstücke und Filmdrehbücher. Sein erstes Prosa-Buch, They Do It so Beautifully in Those Great Romantic Novels, erschien 2014 bei Yellow Turtle Press, einem von ihm geleiteten montenegrinischen Kleinverlag. Es folgten Black Fish (2016) und der Gedicht- band Brink (2018), der auf einem Literaturfestival in Belgrad ausgezeichnet wurde. Äurovic lebt seit 2013 als freischaffender Autor in Berlin. 2019 war er Ko-Gewinner des montenegrinischen Theaterpreises für das beste zeitgenössische Drama, Sleepers. Sein erster Roman, Sampas, kam auf die Shortlist für den NIN -Literaturpreis und den Mesa Selimovic Preis für den besten Roman des Jahres 2021 und wurde außerdem für den Literaturpreis der Europäischen Union nominiert.
