Product description

"An Englishman's way of speaking absolutely classifies him,
The moment he talks he makes some other Englishman despise him." - Henry

George Bernard Shaw famously refused to permit any play of his "to be degraded into an operetta or set to any music except its own." Allowing his beloved Pygmalion to be supplanted by a comic opera was therefore unthinkable; yet Lerner and Loewe transformed it into My Fair Lady (1956), a musical that was to delight audiences and critics alike. By famously reversing Shaw's original ending, the show even dared to establish a cunningly romantic ending.

Keith Garebian delves into the libretto for a fresh take, and explores biographies of the show's principal artists to discover how their roles intersected with real life.

Rex Harrison was an alpha male onstage and off, Julie Andrews struggled with her 'chaste diva' image, and the direction of the sexually ambiguous Moss Hartcontributed to the musical's sexual coding.

Absolutly emotional!
This book took me through ups and downs. I found myself shaking my head a few times, then take a deep breath and go on reading.

This is not a shitstorm book that is intended to spread rumors. I think Britney talks very reflectively about how she experienced everything back then and how she felt about it.

I can recommend this book to everyone. It doesn't matter if you're a Britney fan or not. Because her story is one that should be heard and read!
As far as book titles are concerned, Jennette McCurdy's memoir surely has one of the most provocative ones. When the actress rose to fame through the Nickelodeon shows iCarly and Sam & Cat, nobody could have imagined the turmoil behind the scenes - her family's financial insecurity, a very strict upbringing, dehumanizing auditions, emotional abuse from her mother, and immense pressure from the show's producer. How do you undo a lifetime of manipulation, and destructive coping mechanisms, and land to stand on your own feet? In I'm Glad My Mom Died, she delves deep into these uncomfortable topics with refreshing frankness and surprisingly dark humor. Every chapter closes with a metaphorical gut punch that makes putting the book down nearly impossible. An infuriating, yet highly captivating read and one of the best memoirs to come out of 2022.

Whoa. What a devastating read! A dystopia in the darkest sense of the word - without a happy ending whatsoever (that's how I interpret it at least).
A must-read classic.

You'll never think of rats the same way again!
