Produktbeschreibung

Joan Didion is revealed at last in this outrageously provocative and profoundly moving new work "that reads like a propulsive novel" (Oprah Daily) on the mutual attractionsand mutual antagonismsof Didion and her fellow literary titan, Eve Babitz.

Could you write what you write if you weren't so tiny, Joan? Eve Babitz, in a letter to Joan Didion, 1972

Joan Didion, revealed at last…

Eve Babitz died on December 17, 2021. Found in the wrack, ruin, and filth of her apartment, a stack of boxes packed by her mother decades before. The boxes were pristine, the seals of duct tape unbroken. Inside, a lost world. This world turned for a certain number of years in the late sixties and early seventies, and centered on a two-story rental in a down-at-heel section of Hollywood. 7406 Franklin Avenue, a combination salon-hotbed-living end where writers and artists mixed with movie stars, rock 'n' rollers, and drug trash.

7406 Franklin Avenue was the making of one great American writer: Joan Didion, a mystery behind her dark glasses and cool expression; an enigma inside her storied marriage to John Gregory Dunne, their union as tortured as it was enduring. 7406 Franklin Avenue was the breaking and then the remakingand thus the true makingof another great American writer: Eve Babitz, goddaughter of Igor Stravinsky, nude of Marcel Duchamp, consort of Jim Morrison (among many, many others), a woman who burned so hot she finally almost burned herself alive. Didion and Babitz formed a complicated alliance, a friendship that went bad, amity turning to enmity.

Didion, in spite of her confessional style, is so little known or understood. She's remained opaque, elusive. Until now.

With deftness and skill, journalist Lili Anolik uses Babitz, Babitz's brilliance of observation, Babitz's incisive intelligence, and, most of all, Babitz's diary-like lettersletters found in those sealed boxes, letters so intimate you don't read them so much as breathe themas the key to unlocking Didion.

As far as book titles are concerned, Jennette McCurdy's memoir surely has one of the most provocative ones. When the actress rose to fame through the Nickelodeon shows iCarly and Sam & Cat, nobody could have imagined the turmoil behind the scenes - her family's financial insecurity, a very strict upbringing, dehumanizing auditions, emotional abuse from her mother, and immense pressure from the show's producer. How do you undo a lifetime of manipulation, and destructive coping mechanisms, and land to stand on your own feet? In I'm Glad My Mom Died, she delves deep into these uncomfortable topics with refreshing frankness and surprisingly dark humor. Every chapter closes with a metaphorical gut punch that makes putting the book down nearly impossible. An infuriating, yet highly captivating read and one of the best memoirs to come out of 2022.
fast paced, witty and a very special main character, Evelyn reflects on her relentless rise to the top as an actress. Throughout the story, my relationship to Evelyn changed multiple times and often I could not relate to her or her decisions, nevertheless I loved her, her sarcastic-self and the storys she had to tell about all the men she loved or left.

Viola Davis impresses with intensity in cinema, for television and on stage. In 'Finding me' we accompany the actress through her childhood and to the roots of her strength.
It's a tough road full of adversity, setbacks and trauma.
Viola's powerful writing is breathtaking, relentlessly honest and full of wise insights.
I really love it.
Triumph and trauma go hand in hand in the life of this multi-talented icon.
Billy Porter describes in the memoir 'unprotected', the extreme highs and lows of a astonishing life. With mischievousness, merciless honesty and without the slightest shyness about showing himself vulnerable.
The search for authenticity, hope and healing until the pain is truly overcome is a long one.
This is not just a memoir - it's a testimony!
Charmingly and with ease, Billy Porter transports the extravagance of his amazing singing voice into a lively account full of playful swerves.
Standing ovations for so much audacity!
